Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Collections Specialist to join our team at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate collection of patient accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Delinquent Account Management: Notify patients or their representatives of outstanding balances and attempt to secure payment through phone or mail.
  • Collection Letters and Calls: Mail collection letters and make follow-up calls to patients who have not responded to letters.
  • Financial Arrangements: Exercise discretion and judgment when making financial arrangements based on information received.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of collection actions taken on individual accounts.
  • Claims Filing: File claims in cases of bankruptcy and to estates of deceased patients.
  • Payment Processing: Post payments received to patient accounts.
  • Credit and Collection Inquiries: Answer inquiries concerning credit and collection matters.
  • Collaboration with Patients: Work with patients to make payment arrangements and resolve outstanding balances.
  • Bad Debt Management: Coordinate activities and provide documentation requested by collection agencies and attorneys.
  • Account Turnover: Turn accounts with outstanding balances over to bad debt after all insurances have paid and accounts are in self-pay.
  • Communication: Receive and respond to phone correspondence concerning delinquent accounts.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Generate input documents and maintain bad debt files.
  • Charity Care and Uncompensated Services: Approve charity care and uncompensated services when requested.
  • Remittance Processing: Post collection agencies remittances and payments in our system.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma
  • Experience: Experience with collections and computer skills
