Parking and Traffic Control Officer Job Description

The City of San Jose is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Parking and Traffic Control Officer. As a key member of the Department of Transportation, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people and vehicles within the city.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol assigned areas to enforce parking and traffic regulations
  • Respond to complaints and issues related to parking and traffic
  • Provide education and information to the public on parking laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with other city departments to ensure effective traffic management
  • Work independently and as part of a team to achieve departmental goals

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • One year of experience in a related field, such as law enforcement or customer service
  • Valid driver's license in the State of California
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Competencies:

  • Job Expertise: Demonstrates knowledge of parking and traffic regulations, as well as city policies and procedures
  • Communication Skills: Effectively conveys information to the public and other city departments
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in common business software, including Microsoft Office
  • Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills: Collaborates with others to achieve departmental goals
  • Customer Service: Provides excellent service to the public, responding to their needs and concerns

Selection Process:

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience, as well as a formal police background check. Only the candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process.
