Overview
The Workers' Compensation pricing team at Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a talented Actuary to join their ranks. As part of this dynamic team, you will provide pricing and planning support for Risk Management and Middle Markets. This role offers an exciting opportunity to leverage your analytical skills and communicate key outcomes effectively to support profit, growth, and operational objectives.
About the Role
This position involves complex actuarial analyses to assist business decision-making and strategy development, including semi-annual profit reviews. You will work closely with underwriting actuarial support to provide account-level support for Large Deductible and Excess WC pricing model and tool support, Cat/TRIA, profitability analyses, and deep dives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex actuarial analyses to assist business decision-making and strategy development.
- Utilize profit reviews to set plan loss ratios in coordination with reserving.
- Work with underwriting actuarial support to provide account-level support for Large Deductible and Excess WC pricing model and tool support, Cat/TRIA, profitability analyses, and deep dives.
- Maintain and improve the current reporting infrastructure, working with stakeholders in Finance, Underwriting, and Product to ensure all business needs are met.
- Provide direct guidance and support to underwriting teams with respect to pricing model infrastructure and price adequacy.
- Develop tools that enhance pricing and influence underwriting strategy.
- Provide clear and concise communication of technical actuarial work to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or in Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) designation preferred or comparable education/designation with relevant experience.
- Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required.
- Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
- Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.) with ability to build complex models.
- Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
Salary and Benefits
Liberty Mutual offers a competitive salary range for this role, estimated between $120,000 and $180,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
