This exciting opportunity offers a salary range of $84,755-$140,441 commensurate with 0-5 years of experience. In addition to the County benefits, the PAO pays for annual Washington State bar dues and provides in-house CLEs for all attorneys.

Job Description

">

We are seeking a highly motivated attorney with a commitment to justice, integrity, compassion, leadership, and professionalism to join our office as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Involuntary Treatment Act Section. This role will provide an excellent opportunity to develop expertise and gain negotiation and courtroom experience, particularly for attorneys passionate about behavioral health.

As an ITA Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (DPA), you will work closely with behavioral health professionals from hospitals, out-patient mental health providers, and civilian witnesses. You will handle a daily calendar of civil commitment behavioral health trials and hearings under RCW 71.05 and RCW 71.34. By working in this area, you will develop a strong understanding of how behavioral health illnesses affect behavior and a thorough knowledge of behavioral health treatment options.

  • Criminal and/or general civil law experience; at least two years preferred">

  • Outstanding client relations and negotiation skills">
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm, initiative, and ability to lead a team on complex matters">
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills">
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into easily understandable language">
  • A strong commitment to RESJ, including ongoing development of personal cultural competency">
  • Active participation in PAO RESJ work, attending equity trainings and discussions">
  • Washington State bar qualification and good standing required">
  • Special requirements: member in good standing with the Washington State Bar, must submit to a criminal history check, U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required">

Hybrid Work Model

">

This role works under a hybrid model alternating between three days per week in-person and two days per week remote every other week. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksites to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
