Lead Early Childhood Educator

Job Objectives: To deliver exceptional, tailored instruction for children in a Head Start program within a center-based setting. Support children in reaching their School Readiness Goals in a classroom that is developmentally suitable. Serve as a role model for families, colleagues, and volunteers by promoting active family involvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct with Head Start children, families, colleagues, and the community.
- Execute Head Start Policies and Procedures, the GFHS School Readiness Plan, the Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, alongside additional Head Start enrichment programs.
- Create and sustain a classroom environment that is developmentally appropriate and meets the requirements of the Creative Curriculum interest areas.
- Provide an effective instructional program tailored to the needs and abilities of individual students, which includes:
i. Review of previously taught material
ii. Introduction of new content
iii. Utilization of diverse teaching materials and methodologies
iv. Regular assessment of student progress. - Demonstrate proficiency in the application of the Brigance Early Childhood Screen III and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Collaborate with your paraprofessional to establish a continuous observation system for children. Record necessary observations in Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Arrange two home visits and two homeschool conferences. Discuss the GFHS School Readiness Plan, the Child Profile/Outcome form, and set suitable goals for each child with families.
- Communicate concerns and relevant information with coordinators. Make appropriate referrals to RTI/MTSS, 504 plans, Emotion Management, and Children of Change. Be prepared to actively engage in classroom staffings.
- Provide emotional support in alignment with CLASS by fostering a Positive Classroom Climate, Teacher Sensitivity, and Respect for Student Perspectives.
- Enhance classroom organization in accordance with CLASS through Behavior Management, Productivity, and Instructional Learning Formats.
- Deliver instructional support in line with CLASS through Concept Development, Quality of Feedback, and Language Modeling.
- Ensure active supervision of children at all times, including in the classroom, during field trips, in the gym, and on the playground.
- Utilize outcome reports, observations, and children's Individual Learning Plans to inform instruction.
- Engage parents in curriculum planning while providing opportunities for volunteering. Extend learning into the home by sending activities in weekly newsletters and by participating in the Back Pack Reading Program.
- Attend teacher meetings, staffings, and IEP/MTSS meetings.
- Maintain children's educational records and kindergarten transition files.
- Submit all required documentation promptly.
- Evaluate paraprofessionals and community volunteers.
- Facilitate the transition of children in and out of Head Start, collaborating closely with Head Start parents, kindergarten teachers, and community organizations.
- Pursue professional growth through membership in professional organizations such as NAEYC, attending conferences and workshops, reading professional journals, and keeping technological skills current.
- Complete training in CPR/Choking, First Aid, and Head Start Policies and Procedures.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Requirements: All employees of Grand Forks Head Start must undergo a physical examination by a physician every two years. Must be capable of standing, walking, sitting on the floor with children, reaching, handling materials, communicating both verbally and in writing, hearing adequately, and possessing good vision. Staff must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry, push, and/or pull equipment and furniture.
Supervision of: Paraprofessionals and Foster Grandparents
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see is essential for effective communication; must maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception necessary for successful performance of assigned duties; maintain mental capacity for effective interaction and communication with others.
Evaluation: Conducted by the Director of Head Start at least twice annually during the first three years of service and at least once each year thereafter.
A teaching contract of 188 days.
