Job Summary

Balance Staffing is seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team as a Tool Room Specialist. In this role, you will play a critical part in the production process, working under the direction of the Tool Room Supervisor to set up and operate production machine tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tool Setup and Operation: Set up and operate production machine tools such as lathes, mills, and surface grinders to fabricate, heat treat, and grind new tooling components with precision.
  • Tool Maintenance: Sharpen, repair, and modify existing tooling as needed, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Quality Control: Self-check own work for completeness and accuracy, adhering to strict tolerances.
  • Maintenance and Housekeeping: Perform various maintenance tasks in the Tool Room and on the production floor, maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on Tool Room equipment as needed to ensure optimal performance.
  • Adaptability and Safety: Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Vocational Certificate or Technical Associate's Degree and/or 3-5 years of experience, preferably in a tooling and/or prototype environment.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as blueprints and machined parts.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving: Ability to communicate effectively with employees in various departments, ensuring blueprints and machined parts are created correctly, and apply common sense understanding to carry out and interpret instructions.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of CAD software and basic computer skills with other programs and/or data entry.
Additional Requirements:
  • Tooling Concepts: Ability to grasp tooling concepts such as fixture and die design, heat treating, and run all common Tool Room equipment (lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, etc.) to close tolerances as necessary.
  • Blueprint Reading and Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and produce hand sketches or drawings as necessary.
