Position Overview:

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Certified Respiratory Care Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for patients through expert respiratory care.

Entry-Level Role - Respiratory Staff I:

Main Responsibilities: In this introductory position, new therapists will apply their educational knowledge to positively impact patient care. This role is designed for those beginning their journey in respiratory therapy, offering a supportive environment to develop essential skills.

The Respiratory Staff I will:

  • Hold certification as a Respiratory Therapist/Technician (0-5 years) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (0-3 years).
  • Fulfill all departmental obligations punctually.
  • Engage in at least one departmental project.
  • Maintain BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Contribute a minimum of five commendations annually.
  • Attend at least 75% of scheduled staff meetings.

Mid-Level Role - Respiratory Staff II:

Main Responsibilities: In this role, experienced therapists will elevate their practice by engaging in both clinical and non-clinical responsibilities. Staff II therapists are recognized for their commitment to the field and may pursue leadership opportunities within the department.

The Respiratory Staff II will:

  • Possess 5-10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist/Technician or 3-5 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Provide care at the highest standards, including proficiency in arterial line management.
  • Represent the department with professionalism at all times.
  • Participate in at least two departmental projects.
  • Complete one focused study or DIG annually.
  • Be available for on-call duties as required.
  • Maintain a clean disciplinary record during the review period.
  • Fulfill all departmental obligations punctually.
  • Maintain BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Contribute a minimum of five commendations annually.
  • Attend at least 75% of scheduled staff meetings.

Essential Functions for All Respiratory Therapists:

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to respiratory therapy.
  • Understand disease processes affecting the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Demonstrate high technical proficiency in respiratory care equipment.
  • Work independently while showing flexibility in decision-making and prioritization.
  • Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary processes that enhance patient outcomes.
  • Embody the CARES values in all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the New York State Department of Professions.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Preferred: Graduate of an AMA-approved Associate or Bachelor Program in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Preferred: Three years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.

Compensation: Pay range starts at $42.00, commensurate with experience.
