About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at ITAC. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for complex capital projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply knowledge of analysis, synthesis, and design of industrial processes to develop innovative solutions.
  • Ensure process safety, machine safety, and operability throughout all phases of design.
  • Work under the direction of Lead Engineers, potentially working on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team to optimize mechanical designs within project constraints.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and development of project execution.
  • Lead the mechanical engineering effort for assigned projects, including tracking budgets and schedules.
  • Understand and execute contracted scope of work while identifying potential changes.
  • Troubleshoot operating processes and equipment, developing effective engineering solutions.
  • Provide guidance to the team to optimize process designs.
  • Interpret and comply with regulations, codes, and industry standards to meet design requirements and best practices.
  • Work with clients and other design disciplines to establish project basis of design and develop design options.
  • Develop design criteria for all project stages (feasibility studies, basic engineering, conceptual design, detailed design).
  • Perform material and energy balances, formulating process design strategy.
  • Create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Types of mechanical drawings could include:
    • General Equipment Arrangements (plans and elevations)
    • Piping Orthographic drawings (plans and elevations)
    • Piping isometric drawings
    • Piping support drawings
    • Mechanical installation detail drawings
  • Types of Process drawings:
    • Process flow diagrams
    • Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Be familiar with common piping materials, piping specifications, and piping accessories/supports.
  • Need to be familiar with Plant 3D software as well as 3D viewing software such as Navisworks.
  • Be able to size, specify, and describe via a data sheet and/or written specification the important criteria for purchase and pricing of common industrial equipment such as, cooling towers, chillers, pumps, fans, blowers, heat exchangers, dust collectors, atmospheric tanks, pressure vessels, pressure relief devices, valves, pipes, agitators, compressors and water filtration/purification.
  • Be able to write concise work packages for bidding and construction.
  • Be competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project. Plant 3D and Navisworks experience preferred. AFT Arrow and Fathom experience would be beneficial.
  • Be familiar with Sizing pressure relief devices using API/ASME methodology.
  • Conduct pipe stress calculations and provide redesign recommendations if necessary.
  • Analyze and specify industrial ventilation systems.
  • Create equipment specifications for equipment selection and purchase.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors for design considerations and pricing.
  • Oversee designers in producing CAD drawings and construction grade drawings for installation.
  • Present designs to clients for approval and incorporate modifications as needed.
  • Participate in project team representation during PHAs and HAZOPs.
  • Primarily work in an office environment with occasional travel to project sites.
Requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in design engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.
