We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Dietitian III to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a key member of our nutrition services team, you will be responsible for providing clinical nutrition services to patients, including nutrition assessment, modified diet formulation, self-management training, and nutrition intervention.
Key Responsibilities- Assess the nutritional status of patients through documentation in the medical record, using parameters such as anthropometric measurements, nutrition-focused physical assessment, and interpretation of laboratory values.
- Develop and revise a nutrition care plan based on information from the patient, medical record, family, and healthcare team members.
- Incorporate current evidence-based research into practice.
- Utilize physician-driven protocols or other facility-specific processes to implement, initiate, or modify orders for diet or nutrition-related actions, consistent with specialized training, competence, and approved clinical privileges and organization policy.
- Manage nutrition support therapies, such as enteral and parenteral formula selection and rate adjustments based on energy needs or laboratory results, addition of designated medications and vitamin/mineral supplements to parenteral nutrition solutions or supplemental water for enteral nutrition, and placement of feeding tubes, consistent with specialized training, competence, and approved clinical privileges and organization policy.
- Execute programs/services in an organized, collaborative, and customer-centered manner.
- Participate in process for ordering privileges required for expanded roles and enhanced activities consistent with federal and state practice acts.
- Adhere to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies.
- Comply with regulatory standards, including federal, state, and accrediting agencies.
- Complete all required documentation, reports, and logs in a timely, professional, and thorough manner.
- Communicate effectively with all team members, patients, and families through conferences, individual consultation, and committee participation.
- Orient, mentor, and train staff and interns, as applicable.
- Advise department on patient care and food service issues.
- Assist with menu planning based on diets relevant to their specialty areas in collaboration with the food service management team.
- Follow facility and department infection control policies and procedures.
- Participate in facility-wide and department Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program and on QAPI teams to improve processes and patient care.
- Participate in and attend departmental meetings, staff development, patient care rounds, and professional programs, as appropriate.
- Visit patients on assigned nursing units and contribute to every patient being visited by a member of the management or professional team at least once during their hospital stay.
- Assist and contribute to patient satisfaction goals by providing quality service.
- Projects and practices consistent ownership attributes, which provide a high level of customer service at all points of contact.
- Read and comply with all policies and procedures of the facility, Morrison Healthcare/TouchPoint, and Compass as appropriate.
- Follow all security procedures for facility and department.
- Respond to utility failures per department policy.
- Follow facility, department, Morrison Healthcare/TouchPoint, and Compass safety policies and procedures to include incident reporting.
- Wear name tag identification and be aware of role in minimizing security incidents.
- Follow the facility's protocols for Hazardous Materials and Waste Program.
- Adhere to Emergency Preparedness Program. Participate in disaster drills as appropriate.
- Adhere to Life Safety Program and participate in fire drills as appropriate.
- Perform other tasks that may be assigned.
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, or nutrition-related field.
- Minimum Work Experience: 4 years of experience and/or completed internship, preferably in the area of maternal and child health.
- Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of medical staff, healthcare professionals, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
- Possesses necessary skills to effectively operate the hospital's electronic medical record system.
- Ability to operate a standard computer, including basic use of MS applications such as Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Creates best practice using PI principles. The PI work includes measurable and reportable outcomes and data.
- Required Licenses and Certifications: Registered Dietitian (Required) Specialty certification required i.e. CDE, CSR, CSP, CNSC, when applicable.
