About the Position

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Southeastern Museums Conference, a leading organization in the field of museums and cultural institutions. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong vision, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to advance the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the staff, ensuring effective management of programs, services, and resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including museums, cultural institutions, and community partners.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and growth.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and effective manner, communicating its mission and values to various audiences.
Requirements
  • 8-10 years of experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.
  • Strong knowledge of the museum and cultural institution field, including trends, best practices, and emerging issues.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, budget management, and fundraising.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as museum studies, arts administration, or business.
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, and development.
  • Knowledge of museum and cultural institution accreditation standards and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including museums, cultural institutions, and community partners.
