ICL is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Peer Specialist, you will serve as a role model, educator, and advocate for individuals in need of mental health support. Your personal experience and expertise will enable you to provide guidance and support to our clients, helping them to achieve their goals and maintain a high level of independence.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Supportive Services: Travel to clients' residences to provide counseling and assistance, helping them to maintain their independence and achieve their goals.
- Education and Training: Educate clients about self-help techniques, self-help group processes, and effective coping strategies based on your personal experience.
- Case Management: Assist clients in clarifying rehabilitation and recovery goals, and help them to develop and maintain viable living, working, and social situations in the community.
- Crisis Intervention: Participate in the provision of crisis intervention services to clients, and assist them in developing and implementing crisis plans.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date individual case records, and complete incident reports and other written materials as assigned.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively with clients, families, and staff to provide comprehensive support and services.
- Currently certified or obtain a Peer Specialist certification (provisional or professional) within a year of hire, with experience as a recipient of mental health services.
- Currently certified or obtain a Recovery Peer Advocate certification from the NY Certification Board within a year of hire, with experience as a recipient of mental health services.
- Experience with homelessness or the criminal justice system is also preferred.
