Job Summary

The Walsh Group is seeking a highly experienced Safety Manager II to join our team. As a key member of our Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing the EHS program on our construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Lead EHS Representative, Project Manager, and management team to develop and implement effective site-specific EHS programs.
  • Assist with training and monitoring of subcontractor, vendor, and owner personnel to ensure compliance with EHS regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct daily inspections and evaluations of project sites, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Lead accident investigations and complete incident reporting for project management review.
  • Advise on Industrial Hygiene protocols and perform environmental monitoring.
  • Manage the company's Drug-Free Workplace Policy and ensure proper testing procedures.
  • Provide training and education to company and subcontractor personnel on safety requirements, including new hire safety orientation programs.
  • Complete daily safety reports and submit weekly safety updates to the Regional Safety Manager.
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of documented relevant construction experience.
  • 5 years of professional construction EHS management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards, as well as hazard recognition and injury management skills.
  • Position requires OSHA 30 certification (within the last 5 years), FA/CPR/AED certification, 40-Hr. Hazwoper/8-Hr. Refresher training, RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, DOT HazMat/ Packaging/Manifesting, Permit-Required Confined Space, and Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO) certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • 3 years of experience on tunnel or shaft projects.
  • Previous work with NYC DEP.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, specifically Cofferdams and Underground Construction.
  • Ability to develop JHA's and prepare/present safety training modules.
  • Experience with Industrial Hygiene monitoring programs.
  • Experience managing Worker's Compensation/medical management cases.
  • Safety Professional certification - CHST or CSP.
