Construction Estimator

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team at System One. As a key member of our estimating team, you will be responsible for preparing and coordinating complete estimates for drainage, waterline, and sanitary sewer projects related to transportation pursuits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review proposals, specifications, and drawings to determine scope of work and estimate requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, determine least cost means and methods for construction, and complete full cost estimates for assigned work items.
  • Review and compare estimated cost items to historical cost data.
  • Coordinate with other estimators and operations managers to ensure estimates are complete and responsive to requirements.
  • Analyze geotechnical reports to determine how ground conditions will impact operations and cost.
  • Determine optimum pipe and structure material applications based on project constraints.
  • Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Prepare CPM schedules for assigned estimates.
  • Monitor client document changes and advise the estimating team on changes.
  • Compose, track, and manage clarification correspondence with the client.
  • Prepare bid documents and pricing forms for submittal.
  • Track job-cost data on awarded contracts and compare them to bid budgets.
  • Support project operations on extra work change orders.
  • Maintain records and working documents for estimating cost models, takeoff templates, etc.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in estimating/engineering roles on public and private construction projects is preferred.
  • Leadership, effective communication, and strong interpersonal skills are requisite.
  • Ability to estimate multiple projects at the same time with proven time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Strong work ethic to complete tasks accurately and on time.
  • Solid attention to detail with the ability to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of State DOTs preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6, Excel, Word, and Bluebeam is preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 5 years of related experience if not degreed in a related field of study.
  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in storm sewer systems, culverts, sanitary sewer systems, and waterline installation is preferred.
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid Estimating Software preferred.
