Key Responsibilities:
The Estimator will lead and manage estimating activities, guiding a team of estimators as needed. This role focuses on accurately determining the quantities of materials, equipment, and labor required for construction projects. Responsibilities include:
  • Evaluating requests for estimates
  • Reviewing estimates for completeness and accuracy
  • Understanding the scope of work through construction documents
  • Conducting cost analysis by summarizing material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs for heavy civil projects
  • Executing take-offs from construction documents
  • Inputting take-off data into estimating software
  • Presenting detailed estimate results suitable for project management
  • Attending pre-bid meetings and documenting client communications
  • Preparing project cost estimates from RFQ documents
  • Generating proposals and incorporating necessary notes and exclusions
  • Maintaining cost estimating tools and databases
  • Coordinating estimate handoff for successful pursuits
  • Facilitating communication between departments regarding cost estimating activities
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • A minimum of three years of experience in Civil Construction, including both DOT and private/commercial sectors
  • Familiarity with construction estimating software (e.g., InEight, Hard Dollar, AGTEK, PlanSwift, Bluebeam)
  • Experience estimating earthwork, utilities, and concrete paving

Bonus Skills:
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • General knowledge of the construction industry
  • A sense of humor is a plus

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Minimal travel may be required
