Key Responsibilities

  • Develop clinical judgments and execute comprehensive care plans that reflect independent decision-making and critical analysis to meet the physical and emotional needs of patients, collaborating with the healthcare team while adhering to professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Administer medications via oral and intramuscular routes accurately and possess a thorough understanding of pharmacology.
  • Deliver intravenous medications and ensure proper management of insertion sites in accordance with established protocols.
  • Utilize the nursing process to initiate patient admissions and customize nursing care plans, which include patient and family education as well as discharge planning.
  • Exhibit proficiency in system assessments, recognizing significant patient condition changes, establishing priorities, and implementing nursing interventions.
  • Ensure thorough documentation of all patient-related activities.
  • Foster teamwork through effective communication with patients, families, medical staff, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care management.
  • Uphold patient rights and privacy, acting as an advocate for their needs.
  • Engage with families to provide updates on patient conditions.
  • Assist medical staff with procedures as needed.
  • Maintain skills in performing treatments and adhering to sterile techniques.
  • Oversee patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Possess a solid understanding of Emergency Room, Cardiac, Geriatric, Pediatric, and Medical-Surgical nursing.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical inquiries and problem-solving.
  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to LPNs and CNAs, ensuring proper assessment and documentation of IV conditions for assigned patients.
  • Set personal educational goals and engage in professional development to maintain high standards of patient care.
  • Stay informed about unit operations through participation in meetings.
  • Maintain necessary certifications as per licensure policies.
  • Engage in continuing education to uphold competency and stay updated on nursing and healthcare advancements.
  • Assist in onboarding new staff as required.
  • Participate in clinical training programs to enhance learning experiences for nursing students.
  • Support and engage in evidence-based nursing practices through involvement in research initiatives.
  • Contribute to the evaluation processes for self and team members.
  • Promote and assist with Performance Improvement initiatives to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
  • Provide input for evidence-based practice guidelines and assist in developing policies and procedures specific to the unit.
  • Participate in committees or quality improvement teams.
  • Demonstrate essential behavioral skills in patient care delivery.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse Licensure in Nebraska is mandatory.
