Job Purpose:
This role is designed to deliver therapeutic interventions to eligible students, enhancing their educational experience and facilitating access to the curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct evaluations and provide insightful observations to make educationally relevant recommendations for students requiring occupational therapy.
- Engage in regular collaboration with educational professionals to develop goals and accommodations that support student learning.
- Encourage student independence within the educational setting.
- Recommend and create assistive devices tailored to individual student needs.
- Enhance students' educational performance through adaptive strategies and tools.
- Support the development of motor skills and social-emotional competencies.
- Facilitate students' ability to function effectively in classroom environments.
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of performing physical tasks as outlined in the Physical Environment section of this document.
Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive records related to all services provided, including insurance or Medicaid claims.
Additional Duties:
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of necessary documentation and procedures is essential. The ability to plan and lead in-service training is required. Collaboration with the educational team to develop and implement educational plans is crucial. Effective communication with teachers, staff, and parents regarding student performance and necessary adaptations is expected. Bilingual/biliterate candidates are preferred.
Education and Certification:
Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Program and certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT) is required. A current Florida Department of Health Occupational Therapy state practice license is mandatory.
Work Environment:
This position involves sitting, standing, walking, and coordinating tasks to meet deadlines. Communication through electronic means and face-to-face interactions with students and staff is necessary. A reliable vehicle is required for transportation.
Physical Environment:
Work is primarily indoors in controlled conditions, with some outdoor educational activities. The role requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 20 pounds frequently, and occasionally more with assistance.
