Job Summary

Overview

UNC Health Care seeks a skilled Financial Analyst to join its HA Central Administration team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing finances, performing accounting tasks, and preparing monthly financial reports. Your expertise will help monitor monthly budget expenditures and identify process improvements to decrease costs and increase revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget, working closely with leadership to develop annual operational plans for staffing needs and new program initiatives.
  2. Create regular and ad-hoc reports for Health Alliance leadership to inform decision-making and communicate financial performance.
  3. Design and develop analytical models to ensure achievement of objectives, exercising independent judgment in model design and development.
  4. Serve as a liaison between the department and clinical service line teams, representing the resources of the department and providing specialist knowledge in assigned areas of expertise.
  5. Track and model population growth trends and healthcare utilization, projecting demand for services using complex spreadsheet analysis.
  6. Work closely with population health department managers to monitor workforce productivity and adherence to metric-based targets.
  7. Assess competitor service development and performance, identifying and compiling operating and financial data on key competitors.
  8. Evaluate internal and external data on physician activity, identifying trends and opportunities for improvements in volume and revenue.
  9. Assess new business plan development and performance, comparing operating and financial data on business plans in implementation.
  10. Provide financial, business, and operational support to align with the organization's goals, and provide direction, method, tools, and training to record, measure, and track the financial and operating performance of these areas.
  11. Assist in preparing monthly projections for Health Alliance's financial operations and contract performance for network participants.
Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent; MBA, MHA, or MPH with experience in healthcare planning or financial analysis is preferred.

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • With a Master's Degree, two (2) years of related experience and/or training.
  • With a Bachelor's Degree, six (6) years of related experience and/or training.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

Outstanding Excel skills preferred, with a preference for applicants with accounting or transactional finance backgrounds, prior experience with basic provider claims and revenue cycle concepts, and/or experience in a complex healthcare system.
