Job Title: Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs

This is a senior leadership position in the Office for Faculty Affairs at Harvard Medical School (HMS). The Associate Dean will have expertise in and responsibility for oversight of all senior faculty recruitment, appointments, and promotion processes at Harvard Medical School.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Program Directors and Promotions Coordinators in managing senior faculty appointments and promotions.
  • Advise faculty and department chairs on senior recruitment, appointments, and promotions.
  • Oversee the interpretation, implementation, and refinement of policies related to senior faculty appointments.
  • Serve as a Dean's office representative in strategic meetings relevant to Faculty of Medicine governance.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the endowed professorship nomination process, including communications with departmental/institutional leadership and the Provost's Office.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development on endowed professorships.
  • Manage the Social Science Council, responsible for assessing candidates and senior management of meetings.
Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant field.
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant experience as a senior administrative leader in higher education.
  • Background in basic science, translational, and/or clinical research strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in academic affairs, with prior supervisory experience of staff highly preferred.

Work Format:

This position is based in Boston, but the work may be done primarily remote. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business.
