Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Connecticut Children's is seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by maintaining the cleanliness and sterility of medical instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Decontaminate and sterilize medical instruments and equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Inspect and assemble surgical instruments to ensure they are clean, functioning properly, and complete.
  • Perform steam and Sterrad sterilization, and high-level disinfection according to established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and record sterilization and disinfection processes, including knowledge of procedures for monitoring failures and the recall procedure.
  • Prepare and fill case carts with supplies and instruments according to preference card pick lists.
  • Retrieve surgeon preference cards from Care Navigator for add-on procedures.
  • Retrieve case carts from Operating Rooms and deliver to the decontamination area throughout the shift.
  • Retrieve contaminated instruments from patient care areas.
  • Issue and/or deliver medical-surgical instruments and supplies to patient care areas.
  • Prepare, replenish, and exchange emergency code carts.
  • Transport medication trays for code cart replenishment.
  • Order and stock medical-surgical supplies.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or higher level of education required.
  • One year of recent full-time CSR experience preferred.
  • Central Sterile Technician certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service and Materials Management (IAHCSMM) required.
  • Ability to work individually or within teams within the Perioperative area.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competence.
  • Ability to wear personal protective attire for long periods of time.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work under pressure.
