Job Title: Teacher for the Visually Impaired

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher for the Visually Impaired to join our team at ProCare Therapy. As a TVI, you will play a vital role in supporting students with visual impairments to reach their full potential.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assessment and Instruction: Conduct thorough assessments to determine students' visual abilities and learning needs, and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) to address their specific goals.
  • Curriculum Adaptation: Modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for students with visual impairments.
  • Braille and Assistive Technology: Provide instruction in Braille literacy and technology to students who use Braille as their primary reading and writing medium, and utilize assistive technology tools and devices to support their learning and independence.
  • Collaboration and Advocacy: Collaborate with other educators, parents, and related service providers to create a comprehensive support system for students with visual impairments, and advocate for their needs and rights within the school and community.
Qualifications:
  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in education with a specialization in visual impairment or blindness is typically required.
  • Certification: Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) is usually required, which may be obtained through state-specific requirements or national organizations such as the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).
  • Experience: Previous experience working with students with visual impairments or disabilities, preferably in an educational setting, is often preferred or required.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge of Braille, orientation and mobility techniques, assistive technology, and best practices in teaching students with visual impairments, as well as effective communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and instructional skills.
