About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Manager of Transaction Tax Audits to join our team at Verizon. As a key member of our tax function, you will be responsible for managing an inventory of sales/use and gross receipts tax audits of select Verizon entities and associated reserves.

This role requires a strong understanding of transaction tax laws, audit acumen, and the ability to negotiate and advocate favorable outcomes. You will work closely with other tax groups, including Compliance, Legal, Research and Tax IT, to ensure the Company resolves tax audits favorably.

As a Tax Manager, you will be responsible for developing strategy, responding to inquiries, negotiating settlements, presenting audit impacts, and managing related accounting. You will also work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and time constraints.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in tax, preferably with experience in sales/use and gross receipts tax with a proven record of effectively dealing with transaction tax audits. Experience with digital automation and data visualization technology, such as Alteryx or QLIK, is also a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategy, respond to inquiries, negotiate settlements, present audit impacts, and manage related accounting.
  • Work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and time constraints.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of transaction tax laws, audit acumen, and the ability to negotiate and advocate favorable outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of data analytics skills, including extracting and presenting large amounts of data for claims, audit support, and other needs.
  • Calculate, establish, and monitor FAS 5 Reserves for Contingent Gains and Losses related to audits assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Five or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Analytics/Business Intelligence or related discipline.
  • Experience with sales/use and gross receipts tax with a proven record of effectively dealing with transaction tax audits.
  • Experience with digital automation and data visualization technology, such as Alteryx or QLIK.
  • Advanced degree in Law, Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science.
  • Experience in the sales/use and gross receipts tax field for Big 4 accounting firms and/or Fortune 500 corporate tax departments.
  • Experience including advanced tax audit techniques (ex. sampling) and tax research analysis.
  • Experience in the technology and/or telecommunications industry.
  • Proficient knowledge in Enterprise Resource Planning such as SAP.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMI).
  • Experience as an auditor for a taxing authority.
