Department Overview
The Electric Operations team is dedicated to providing safe and dependable electric service to our clientele. This department oversees all facets of electric distribution and transmission, encompassing planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, business planning, restoration, and emergency response.
Position Summary
This role is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245, which has a long-standing history of advocating for employees. The position is subject to collective bargaining agreements. We seek candidates with foundational experience or training in areas such as electrical and mechanical work, high voltage systems, electrical construction, line work, carpentry, equipment operation, general construction, and physical labor. Responsibilities may include operating hand and power tools, assisting various levels of line workers, and managing equipment operations. The Utility Worker-GC will work in diverse environments, including remote locations, elevated heights, confined spaces, and near bodies of water. Potential exposure to local wildlife and environmental hazards is expected.
The Utility Worker-GC is categorized under General Construction, and candidates must be willing to travel and relocate to different headquarters as required, with no assurance of the duration away from home.
Preference will be given to applicants residing within a 50-mile radius of the headquarters location.
This position may fall under the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
Compensation
The hourly wage for this position is $37.34, reflecting the company's good faith estimate at the time of posting. This wage is influenced by various factors, including skills, education, licenses, experience, market conditions, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the loading and unloading of equipment and materials while adhering to safety standards.
- Excavate trenches and holes safely and efficiently.
- Conduct field construction tasks in various weather conditions across the service territory.
- Utilize and maintain an array of hand and power tools and equipment.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and journeymen diligently.
- Comply with all company standards and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Prioritize safety in all operations as per company guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- Valid Class C California Driver's License (or higher) is necessary from the first day of employment.
- Must obtain a Class A California Driver's License Permit within three months of hire.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Safe driving skills in all weather and road conditions.
- Willingness to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel and relocate as needed across the service territory.
- Comfortable working in remote locations with potential exposure to wildlife.
- Capability to navigate steep and uneven terrain.
- Experience working around high voltage and large mechanical equipment.
- Must wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds over challenging terrain.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Ability to perform tasks from various elevated positions.
- Experience working near bodies of water and with helicopters.
Desired Qualifications:
- Possession of a Class A California Driver's License.
- Experience in electrical troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools used in commercial construction.
- Experience in digging and installing conduit.
- Prior physical labor experience.
- Background in electrical construction.
- Military service experience.
- Relevant experience with PG&E or similar organizations.
- Graduation from an approved Power Pathway Program.
- Positive attitude and ability to work well in teams.
- Capability to comprehend written and verbal instructions.
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance terminology and processes.
- Familiarity with test and field equipment.
