Lead Cloud Architect - Platform Services (Remote or Hybrid)

Welcome to SAS

As a frontrunner in data analytics and artificial intelligence, we empower clients globally to convert data into actionable insights and solutions.

We are a financially robust, multi-billion-dollar entity, gearing up for our IPO. If you seek a vibrant, rewarding career that offers flexibility and an exceptional employee experience, you will find it here.

Position Overview

Are you a visionary technical leader with expertise in cloud-native and Kubernetes frameworks? Do you possess the ability to comprehend intricate systems and propose precise enhancements? Are you skilled at communicating your architectural vision to both senior R&D executives and developers? Are you enthusiastic about collaborating with R&D teams across various sectors to ensure our cloud-native architecture meets the scalability and performance expectations of our clients?

The Platform Services Division is in search of a Lead Cloud Architect to spearhead extensive architectural projects, provide technical guidance, and uphold excellence as we continue to launch cloud-first, cloud-native, as-a-service solutions across multiple R&D divisions. This expansive role requires a Kubernetes specialist to maintain the vision, direction, and evolution of the most crucial element of our architecture – the foundational platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop proof of concepts (POCs) and interactive demonstrations utilizing Kubernetes to highlight innovative ideas, validate architectural strategies, and guide implementation choices.
  • Recommend, revise, and evaluate architectural designs while directly supporting teams in their execution.
  • Engage with our engineering architectural committee and oversee all related initiatives.
  • Establish, document, and promote standards, methodologies, and best practices as the technical authority on Kubernetes.
  • Represent the technical viewpoint of an R&D division during planning, scoping, and sizing activities, ensuring critical dependencies are recognized and risks are addressed.
  • Collaborate with product managers, fellow architects, and developers to ascertain functional and non-functional requirements for both new and existing applications.
  • Guarantee that all products conform to a unified architecture to ensure compatibility, create a cohesive product line, and fulfill customer expectations.
  • Advance SAS software architectures to integrate new technologies that align with our business goals and customer needs.
  • Organize and maintain comprehensive documentation regarding technical designs, including justifications for architectural and design decisions.
  • Independently manage all primary responsibilities on complex projects; effectively oversee projects to achieve anticipated outcomes.
  • Act as a change agent, consistently seeking and implementing process enhancements.
  • Mentor junior developers within your R&D division, fostering the growth of skills and talents.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline, ideally in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 12+ years of programming experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes and its security, including relevant certifications such as CKA and CKS.
  • Proven experience with Kubernetes deployment and automation.
  • Experience in developing production-grade cloud-native applications on major cloud platforms.
  • Expertise in constructing high-performance, elastic, scalable architectures using Kubernetes, including familiarity with ingresses, operators, CRDs, and CNIs in relation to Kubernetes application management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the SAS product line and Viya architecture.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of system software design, particularly in enabling technologies, analytics, and solutions.
  • Ability to grasp the intricacies of complex system software and the ramifications of architectural modifications.
  • Capability to articulate requirements for multiple, highly complex systems.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to Agile software development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD principles.
  • Deep comprehension of cloud-native principles and the implications of cloud economics on software architecture and design.

Exceptional Benefits:

Highlights include:

  • Comprehensive medical, prescription, dental, and vision plans.
  • Medical plan options include:
    • PPO with low annual deductible and copays.
    • HDHP combined with a health savings account with contributions from SAS.
  • Onsite Health Care Center available for employees and family members enrolled in the PPO plan.
  • An industry-leading 401k plan.
  • Generous time off, including vacation, various paid holidays, and a Winter Wellness Break.
  • Volunteer Time Off, parental leave, and unlimited paid sick days.
  • Generous childcare benefits for all full-time employees.
