Job Summary

The Cayleff & Sakai Faculty Scholar is a key position within the Women's Resource Center and Pride Center at San Diego State University. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced individual to provide support to the centers, recruit and support students, design and develop curriculum, teach a weekly seminar class, and collaborate with leadership on programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and support students in the Women and Gender Equity (WAGE) and Pride House program
  • Design and develop creative, engaging, and interactive curriculum that aligns with the goals, objectives, and learning outcomes for the seminar course
  • Teach the weekly seminar class
  • Recruit, interview, select, train, and supervise academic coaches
  • Organize a weekly staff meeting for the mentors
  • Meet with mentors one-on-one to discuss progress and challenges
  • Collaborate with the WRC/Pride Center leadership on programming
  • Attend Center events
Requirements
  • Terminal degree in behavioral sciences, counseling, psychology, or a specific related academic field
  • California license as a Psychologist, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor, or as a Clinical Social Worker
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Prior experience in higher education, with a focus on supporting programs for queer and/or trans people of color
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to develop and deliver training and education workshops
  • Documented experience developing and coordinating programs and events
  • Knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross-cultural needs of women and LGBTQ+ students
  • Ability to collaborate and work with other units regarding issues of diversity and community
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with key senior management, faculty, and administrators
  • Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in responding to conversional, sensitive, and/or emotional issues and situations
  • Ability to assess, design, implement, and evaluate effective programming and policies
  • Ability to work well independently and follow through on projects with minimal direction
  • Ability to effectively administer and coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities
  • Demonstrated ability to apply power, privilege, and inequity concepts to create safe working environments for minoritized students, faculty, and staff
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse populations of women and LGBTQ+ students
  • Competency in cross-cultural communication
  • Possesses leadership qualities such as proactiveness, vision, being a self-starter, positivity, and creativity
  • Previous experience working with community engagement, community building, and/or community organizing
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advance notice
  • Knowledge of using a strengths-based approach, trauma-informed care, and balancing challenge and support
  • Possess a strong understanding and interest of intersectional feminist and queer justice
Benefits

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with a salary range of $6,010 - $11,247 per month. San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.
