Purpose and Scope
This position involves HVAC Controls engineering with advanced experience to execute HVAC controls engineering tasks, utilizing computer control systems and PLC control systems employed in the Kennedy Complex Control System (KCCS), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and other control systems at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The individual will operate with minimal supervision and will be accountable for supporting the operations and maintenance of assigned systems related to HVAC and compressed air disciplines.
Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities
Provide HVAC Controls System Engineering support for the Europa Clipper mission. This role will take ownership and serve as the primary contact for all HVAC equipment, including chillers, AHUs, VAVs, and compressed air needs of the designated facility. Responsibilities will encompass all aspects of system software and hardware related to the assigned systems. The individual must be capable of providing technical guidance to shop personnel. Attendance at assigned meetings will be required. Conduct root cause analysis for any system failures.
Maintenance
+ Update and add new asset information in the Maximo database for assigned equipment per the Maintenance Action Request (MAR) process.
+ Develop and sustain job plans and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment in line with EGS Operations and industry standards.
+ Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals for assigned equipment.
+ Conduct site visits to diagnose system issues, propose solutions, and offer recommendations for system restoration.
+ Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues related to assigned equipment as necessary. Provide technical expertise for any technical anomalies that arise. Document and resolve failure anomalies concerning assigned equipment.
+ Prepare Technical Anomaly reports and presentations that document problems, concerns, and resolutions for assigned equipment to the Engineering Review Board.
Readiness
+ Provide input to and receive direction from relevant System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams.
+ Develop and present mission-related presentations to NASA and/or EGS customers as required to discuss support readiness or failure concerns.
+ Conduct readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.
Other
+ Interpret and provide guidance for assigned equipment using single line and schematic drawings.
+ Develop, maintain, and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
+ Verify compliance with engineering documentation standards and testing procedures.
+ Conduct site visits, experimental investigations, and analyze engineering challenges, proposing solutions and alternatives, and providing recommendations.
+ Assess assigned systems and equipment for necessary upgrades to meet new code requirements or enhance operations.
+ Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Education and Experience Requirements
+ A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10 years of work experience, or 25 years of experience with Andover vendor training. Extensive knowledge of Andover, BacNet, and SCADA systems is essential. Must be able to obtain and maintain job-related licenses and certifications as required by federal, state, local, NASA, and Space Force standards, rules, and regulations.
+ Strong communication and analytical skills are necessary.
Other Requirements:
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain required government clearances/badges as mandated by the program and position.
+ Must possess the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
+ Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds; constant sitting while using a computer terminal; continuous visual engagement while reviewing documents; ongoing verbal and auditory communication; consistent mental alertness; must possess planning and organizing skills and be able to work under deadlines. Fieldwork will primarily consist of site walk-downs in support of design projects and system troubleshooting. Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
