Job Title: Lifeguard

Join the YMCA of East Tennessee team as a Lifeguard, responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in our pool, deck, and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular pool area surveillance to ensure member safety.
  • Maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
  • Accurately record and document required information.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is available.
  • Identify and address hazardous conditions in the pool area.
  • Conduct chemical testing and document results, taking necessary action.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies, rules, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.
Requirements:
  • Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily.
  • Current CPR for the Professional certification required for hire and maintenance.
  • O2, AED, and First Aid certifications required for hire and maintenance.
  • Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguarding Certification required for hire and maintenance.
  • New Employee Orientation required to complete before starting work.
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

Physical Demands:

The employee may be required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. Occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Must be able to project voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
