Position Details:
Title: Firmware Development Engineer
Duration: Vendor

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead initiatives to analyze, design, develop, and troubleshoot firmware for a diverse range of AR and VR devices, including innovative sensing and imaging systems, haptic technologies, and audio prototypes.
  • Implement firmware on microcontrollers, optimize peripheral usage, manage power efficiency, support boot loaders, and schedule real-time tasks (RTOS).
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to make architectural decisions necessary for the swift delivery of firmware solutions.
  • Support all stages of custom hardware development, including early architecture requirements, firmware design, proof-of-concept execution, MCU and tool selection, and board bring-up.

Required Skills:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in embedded firmware design or a related field.
  • Ability to work within a dynamic cross-functional team to translate market needs into actionable software design specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with external partners and internal teams.
  • Research and assess new technologies to enhance innovation and reduce time to market.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Android is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Internet of Things (IoT) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with peripherals such as USB, SPI, MIPI CSI/DSI, I2C, UART, GPIO, etc.
  • Proficiency in communication protocols including USB, TCP/IP, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and 802.11.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, Kernel, Yocto, Buildroot, etc.
  • Proven ability to optimize performance in resource-constrained systems.
  • Experience with RTOS-based or bare metal systems.
  • Background in high-compute/throughput systems and performance/power estimation through simulation/modeling.
  • Extensive experience in developing embedded firmware using C & C++.
  • Previous involvement in the development of embedded platforms (e.g., MSP430, ARM, Atmel AVR, STM32, etc.).
  • Experience in implementing and debugging communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, etc.
  • Familiarity with bare metal systems (no OS) and/or embedded OS (e.g., Embedded Linux, FreeRTOS, etc.).
  • Understanding of microcontroller execution models and memory architectures.
  • Proficient in Python and knowledgeable about the Linux operating system.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and understand their implications on firmware operations.

Education:
B.S./M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
