Hospice Aide Job Summary

The hospice aide is a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, working under the supervision of a registered nurse to provide essential care services for patients. This role involves observing patients, reporting observations, and documenting care provided to ensure quality, continuity, and safety of patient care.


Duties and Responsibilities

The hospice aide is responsible for performing various tasks, including:

  • Providing personal care needs, such as bathing, back rubs, oral hygiene, and changing bed linen as assigned.
  • Assisting with dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
  • Planning and preparing nutritious meals, including shopping, as assigned.
  • Assisting with feeding patients as assigned.
  • Providing proper care and observation of patients' skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence.
  • Reporting on patients' condition and significant changes to the Case Manager.
  • Assisting with ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
  • Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals.
  • Providing respite for patients, family, and caregivers when on-site, as appropriate.
  • Keeping patients' living areas clean and orderly, as assigned.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Meet the training requirements of the State.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have the ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
  • Understand hospice philosophy and be comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
  • Have satisfactory references from previous employers.
  • Be self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
  • Have empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
  • Possess and maintain current CPR certification.
  • Demonstrate tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
  • Have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

Salary

$26.00 per hour.
