Job Summary:

The Surgical Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of designated units within the division of Surgical Services. This role involves managing inpatient units at KSMC/KWMC or one of the ASCs, with the area of specialization provided through the job posting process. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring care delivery meets clinical practice guidelines, creating and evaluating policies and procedures, and staying current with practice changes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Practice: Acts as an expert resource and role model for staff, ensuring care delivery meets clinical practice guidelines through competency-based assessment of all staff. Uses quality outcomes to ensure safe procedural care of patients in the perioperative/interventional arena.
  • Personnel Management: Interviews, recruits, and hires RN staff, conducts performance appraisals, and counsels employees. Ensures staff has knowledge and skills to provide appropriate, safe care to patients through education, coaching, or experience.
  • Leadership: Facilitates interdepartmental relationships to support mission, vision, and goals of the department and organization. Demonstrates critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Quality Assurance/Improvement: Participates in data gathering and analysis, articulates organization and department performance improvement programs and goals, and maintains compliance with regulatory bodies and professional standards.
  • Financial Management: Works with the business manager or director to develop a budget that takes into account labor and cost of goods using historical and projected estimates.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) years of RN clinical experience, with at least two (2) years in Perioperative Services.
  • Minimum two (2) years of leadership role in healthcare.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum two (2) years of Critical Care experience (MPU or SPA/PACU only).
  • Minimum four (4) years of previous management experience in similar role or in acute care setting.
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated knowledge in area of clinical experience.
