We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team at the City of Palm Desert, CA. As a Library Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional customer service to our patrons, maintaining the organization and accessibility of our library materials, and supporting the day-to-day operations of our library.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide excellent customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain the organization and accessibility of library materials, including checking out and returning books, processing new materials, and shelving books and other materials.
- Assist with routine tasks that support the day-to-day functioning of the library, such as answering phones, processing payments, and maintaining records.
- Participate in the preparation of displays and exhibits, and maintain the library displays.
- Assist with planning and implementing programs and activities, and provide support to library staff as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- One year of experience in a customer service or library setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work accurately, consistently, and dependably at a fast pace during times of high volume.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patrons, staff, and community groups.
- Ability to learn and apply library policies and procedures, and to make appropriate decisions during interactions with patrons and colleagues.
Positions in this class typically require sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, twisting, turning, manual dexterity, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near vision in reading correspondence, statistical data, and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and customer service.
