About Bridgeport Caribe Youth League Inc
The Math and Reading Tutoring Initiative aims to create a supportive environment that empowers students to enhance their understanding and proficiency in Mathematics and Reading comprehension.
With a low tutor-to-student ratio, we provide tailored support to address individual learning needs while ensuring a high-quality educational experience for all students, regardless of their economic circumstances.
New tutors are expected to participate in 1-2 training or orientation sessions, as well as commit to all scheduled tutoring sessions, primarily on Saturdays.
The Tutoring Initiative operates in alignment with the academic calendar, featuring three distinct sessions: September to November, January to March, and April to June. In accordance with health guidelines, all classes will be conducted on Saturday mornings from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The program focuses on Mathematics instruction, reading comprehension, and creative writing skills. Tutoring sessions will commence at 9:00 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM, followed by a debriefing session with the Director to evaluate student progress and strategize for future sessions.
Qualifications:
Tutors are required to possess a solid understanding of elementary, middle, or high school Mathematics and Reading curricula, coupled with the ability to engage students effectively. Class sizes typically average four students per tutor, and tutors are expected to provide supplementary study materials based on the curriculum.
Materials Provided:
Tutors will receive educational materials tailored to the grade levels they are assigned to teach.

We seek highly motivated, creative, flexible, and dependable individuals who exhibit strong communication and organizational skills, along with a genuine passion for fostering student success.
Ideal candidates should:
- Exhibit self-motivation, responsibility, friendliness, diligence, and professionalism.
- Have the ability to inspire and connect with students from grammar to middle school. Previous experience with elementary school students is advantageous.
· Be comfortable presenting in front of small groups of students.
· Demonstrate proficiency in Mathematics, reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. Majors in Mathematics, Education, English, Art, Psychology, and Engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Communicate effectively with both students and the Bridgeport Caribe staff.
- Possess a commendable academic record. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred but not mandatory.
- Creative skills in arts and crafts, S.T.E.M. projects, and public speaking are highly valued.
- Be available for all required training sessions, Saturday classes, and debrief meetings with the Education Director.
