The Academic Advisor I plays a crucial role in fostering student achievement and retention at the university. Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic counseling through various channels including in-person meetings, virtual sessions, phone calls, and email communications.
  • Assist students in understanding degree requirements and selecting appropriate courses that align with their academic and career aspirations.
  • Empower students to make informed decisions regarding their academic paths by teaching them to track their progress and understand university policies.
  • Monitor and support the academic progress of assigned students, offering timely interventions as needed.
  • Verify degree progress, manage holds, and approve necessary documentation to facilitate student advancement.
  • Analyze student data and academic records to provide tailored advice.
  • Document advising sessions in the student information system, adhering to best practices.
  • Stay updated on relevant university policies and available support services to effectively guide students.
  • Engage in campus initiatives and professional development opportunities to enhance advising skills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department's objectives.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required. A Master's degree and experience in academic advising or a related area are preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite and student information systems.
