Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Unit Coordinator to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our medical staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Answer phone calls and manage calls appropriately, ensuring timely and accurate communication with patients and staff.
  • Take phone reports from Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, and other Departments, and deliver them to the proper nurse.
  • Call and schedule clinic appointments for patients who need assistance, as directed by RN/LPN.
  • Refer all calls from physicians to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Use systems to assist with the processing of orders, verify ADT information, and maintain accurate records.
  • Retrieve medications and supplies, and deliver them to the proper place/person.
  • Report maintenance problems immediately and support unit staff during computer downtime.
  • Maintain inventory of Unit supplies, order non-stock items as directed, and transport supplies and equipment between Units or Departments as needed.
  • Communicate ADT information to Admitting Department and Shift Supervisor/Bed Control.
  • Answer nurse call console and refer patient calls to the appropriate person.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Supervisor or RN.
Requirements:
  • Post high school coursework in Medical Terminology or equivalent related experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire from American Heart Association.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in conflict resolution, decision making, customer service, influence, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, teamwork, written communication, organizational skills, time management, and initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in transcribing physicians orders, computer skills, and setting up and maintaining file systems.
