Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Nursing Unit Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our 24-hour, 7-days-a-week unit. As a manager, practitioner, educator, mentor, and consultant, you will guide nursing leadership toward excellence in practice and serve as a role model. Your responsibilities will include supervising assigned staff, responding to patient/family complaints, and fulfilling the role of advocate for patients and families.

Essential Responsibilities:

* Respond to patient/family complaints and fulfill the role of advocate for patients and families.
* Monitor and coordinate patient care provided by nursing on a 24-hour basis.
* Provide nursing consultation to unit staff, peers, other hospital personnel, adjunct staff, and nursing students and instructors.
* Respond to unit emergencies and direct staff in crisis situations.
* Fulfill the role of nursing staff advocate, listening to staff concerns and responding in a clear, calm, consistent, and timely manner.
* Ensure staff development by coordinating unit in-services to meet identified core and unit-focused competencies.
* Schedule and assign staff in accordance with patient care, budget guidelines, and current unit acuities, promoting effective use of resources.
* Attend and participate in nursing department and other assigned meetings.
* Develop and implement plans/projects to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness, monitoring and reporting status and progress to supervisor.
* Monitor and evaluate quality and appropriateness of patient care, quality control items, and patient satisfaction.
* Maintain a safe environment, tracking the status of identified problems or areas of non-compliance to ensure the effectiveness of corrective action.
* Serve as a resource, technical expert, and spokesperson in the area of specialization, ensuring the provision of safe patient care.
* May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency, and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and direct the provision of care on the unit.
* Provide direct patient care on an as-needed basis, providing services that are within the scope of license and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements relevant to the clinical role performed.
* Incorporate the KP Nursing Vision, Model, and Values throughout nursing practice.
* Hire, train, supervise, counsel, discipline, and terminate assigned staff as appropriate.
* Communicate goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.
