Job Summary:
As an Ophthalmic Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in our Eye Care team. Your responsibilities will include performing measurement and evaluation tests, assisting with procedures, and providing patient instruction. You will also serve as a triage point for urgent and emergent eye care needs, using your technical skills and judgment to guide patients through the care process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Anticipate and recognize changes in patients' eye health status and needs for eye care.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history taking and clinical exams.
  • Perform basic testing skills, such as measuring and recording acuity, color vision testing, and lensometry.
  • Assist with patient services procedures, including ocular dressings and shields, drug delivery, and spectacle principles.
  • Maintain instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Provide patient care, encouraging compliance with established therapeutic and medical treatment, and promoting patient self-care responsibility.
  • Check-in and make follow-up appointments, as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (Washington) certification required within 2 months of hire.
  • Ophthalmic Assistant Certificate required at hire from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
  • Basic Life Support certification required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with contact lens patients and products.
  • Experience working in an ophthalmology or optometry practice.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant, ophthalmic assistant, or allied health professional program.
