Job Summary

The U.S. Department of the Interior is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wildland Firefighter to join our team. As a key member of our fire management operations, you will be responsible for providing authoritative advice on DOI policies and programs, establishing allocation priorities for firefighting resources, and directing the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of these resources as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on fire management operations and policies
  • Establish and implement allocation priorities for firefighting resources
  • Direct the mobilization, reassignment, and demobilization of firefighting resources
  • Represent the Department of the Interior in coordinating the movement of federal and cooperator firefighting resources
  • Evaluate daily fire situation and keep federal and state fire managers apprised of potential or anticipated fire complexities
  • Participate in general management program and activity reviews to determine conformance with established policies, programs, and procedures
  • Provide staff expertise and assistance to the BLM District/Field Office on Fire Management Activity Planning (FMAP) and Prescribed Fire Planning
  • Ensure safety in all movements of personnel, equipment, and aircraft

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Must have a strong understanding of fire management operations and policies
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions
