Role Summary: The Staff Accountant will undertake a range of essential accounting functions, including but not limited to account reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll processing. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Accounting Duties:
    • Execute account reconciliations to verify the integrity of financial data.
    • Analyze accounts to identify and rectify discrepancies.
    • Prepare and record journal entries in a timely manner.
    • Oversee petty cash management, ensuring proper documentation.
    • Conduct bank reconciliations and address any discrepancies swiftly.
    • Support various accounting tasks as assigned.
    • Contribute to special projects, providing necessary accounting insights.
  • Payroll Management:
    • Administer bi-weekly payroll for all staff, ensuring adherence to regulations.
    • Maintain and update payroll documentation accurately.
    • Address payroll inquiries from employees promptly.
    • Ensure proper filing and documentation of payroll records.
    • Stay informed on payroll legislation and implement necessary changes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting and payroll functions.
  • Proficient in accounting software and payroll systems.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll compliance.
  • Dedication to community service and the mission of NY Common Pantry.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
