UnityPoint Health is seeking a dedicated professional in the role of LPN or CMA to join our Gastroenterology Clinic.

As a vital member of our clinical team, you will assist healthcare providers and clinical staff in gathering essential patient information, preparing individuals for examinations, treatments, and minor surgical interventions. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a follow-up system for patient appointments, laboratory tests, and procedures to ensure ongoing monitoring of health conditions. You will also facilitate referrals to specialists as directed by the healthcare provider and complete necessary documentation for lab testing and referrals, including appropriate coding. Additionally, you will provide education and support to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence and Patient Care

  • Assist healthcare providers and clinical staff in collecting vital patient information and preparing individuals for examinations and treatments.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the clinical skills required for your role.
  • May be tasked with drawing blood and collecting samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Administer prescribed medications and vaccines as needed.
  • Maintain a tracking system for follow-up appointments and lab tests to monitor patient health.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and ensure accurate completion of necessary forms and coding.
  • Document patient interactions in electronic health records following established protocols.

Patient Education and Development

  • Provide answers and educational support to patients and their families.
  • Understand laboratory tests and procedures, ensuring accountability for next steps based on patient status.
  • Stay informed about clinic operations by participating in meetings and reviewing internal communications.
  • Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines in all clinical practices.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and demonstrate a commitment to quality service.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurses or Medical Assistants.
  • High school diploma required for roles involving moderate complexity laboratory work.

Experience:

  • Prior clinical experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Experience with computer data entry is essential.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current nursing license in the State of Iowa for LPNs.
  • Current certification for Medical Assistants from recognized organizations.
  • BLS and Mandatory Reporter certifications are required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary for work-related travel.

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
