We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Vidant Health.
Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. This includes understanding method principles, performing quality control and calibrations, performing preventive maintenance, and analyzing results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
Key Responsibilities
As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing patient specimens for laboratory testing and performing laboratory tests specific to the department
- Monitoring test results to ensure test quality and validity
- Communicating test results in a timely manner
- Entering and retrieving data from laboratory computer systems
- Cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment and environment
- Demonstrating appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors, and staff with respect and dignity
- Working alternate shifts as required
- Performing other duties as assigned, including phlebotomy
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services)
- Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred.
Work Schedule
This is a PRN, As Needed position. The schedule includes Saturday and Sunday (10:30 am - 4:30 pm) with potential to cover afternoon workday shifts after clinical rotation or on an as-needed basis as school course load allows. Required to work rotational holidays.
