We are seeking a dynamic and experienced academic leader to serve as the Chair of the English Department at Sam Houston State University. The successful candidate will have a strong record of transformative leadership, a commitment to recruiting and serving students with diverse backgrounds and abilities, and a passion for advancing the department's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee strategic recruitment and retention efforts to meet the growing needs of the department and university community.
  • Manage the department's budget to support existing and developing programs, and facilitate faculty research, teaching, and service.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement innovative curricula and programs.
  • Provide leadership and support for faculty development, including mentoring and coaching.
  • Represent the department in university-wide initiatives and committees.
Requirements
  • Earned Doctorate in English or a related field.
  • University teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Proven record of academic leadership and a strong record of publication.
  • Qualifications for appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated publication success in English or a related field.
  • Experience as a department head or director in English or a closely related department.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level, including chairing committees for master's theses and capstone projects.
  • Experience with curriculum development and budget management.
