Unit Description:
The Orthopedic Medical-Surgical unit is a specialized 27-bed facility that caters to patients undergoing orthopedic joint, spine, and bariatric procedures. Our unit is recognized for its rapid patient turnover, with an average length of stay of 23 hours or less for joint and bariatric patients.

Team Composition:
The team comprises Registered Nurses, Nurse Navigators, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Patient Care Associates, Student Nurse Associates, and Health Unit Coordinators, all working collaboratively to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Clinical Focus:
Our primary goal is to provide exceptional customer service and focused post-operative care, including:
1. Ambulation support
2. Multi-modal pain management
3. Tailored patient education for home care

We emphasize patient and family involvement in care, particularly for those undergoing bariatric and orthopedic procedures.

Accreditation:
The Fort Sanders Center for Bariatric Surgery is accredited by MBSAQIP, and our surgeons are renowned for their expertise in various surgical procedures, including gastric bypass and sleeve surgeries.

Role Responsibilities:
As an LPN, you will:
- Assist in the initiation of patient assessments and collaborate with RNs to implement care plans.
- Adhere to regulatory standards and hospital policies while performing nursing duties.
- Execute nursing tasks effectively and prioritize patient care needs.
- Document patient responses and nursing interventions accurately and promptly.
- Recognize and report changes in patient conditions to the RN Team Leader.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and patient care discussions as needed.
- Uphold infection control principles and collaborate with infection control specialists.
- Mentor new staff or students in unit protocols.
- Administer IV therapies and advanced patient care treatments as per hospital guidelines.

Qualifications:
Education:
Must meet the educational requirements for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Experience:
No prior experience as an LPN is required.

Licensure:
Must hold a current license as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Tennessee.
