Job Title: Mobile Crane Specialist.
Department: Rigging & Commercial.
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt.
The Mobile Crane Specialist is tasked with the operation of a mobile crane to lift, transport, position, and unload various loads, as well as crane accessories from transport vehicles. Collaboration with team members is crucial, as the Specialist will work closely with riggers and site supervisors, receiving instructions through verbal or hand signals to execute load movements. Depending on the assignment, the Specialist may also function as part of the ground crew.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operates diverse crane types including All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, and Boom Trucks.
  • Hydraulic Truck Crane Specialists operate diesel-powered cranes mounted on truck chassis to position materials, objects, or personnel.
  • Drives the crane to the designated work site and sets it up according to the manufacturer's guidelines and company protocols regarding cribbing and matting.
  • Oversees the activities of oilers, truck drivers, or assistants during the assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Places cribbing blocks and pads, maneuvers levers and pedals to rotate the superstructure, and raises or lowers the boom to adjust cables.
  • May operate the crane based on signals from an oiler or assistant and may connect boom sections to modify boom lengths.
  • Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections along with routine daily and monthly equipment checks.
  • Performs regular maintenance and carries tools for on-the-spot repairs.
  • Ensures proper barricading of counterweight tail swing and working radius.
  • Takes full responsibility for safety during the assembly, disassembly, and operation of the crane, including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Completes job tickets for customer acknowledgment of job site and billing responsibilities.
  • Drives the truck to job sites and unloads equipment as necessary.
  • Occasional travel is required, typically not exceeding one week.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience in Crane Operation.
  • Proficient in reading and speaking English.
  • Current NCCCO, TLL (TSS preferred), or equivalent crane operator certification is required.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and ANSI standards related to crane operations.
  • A valid CDL-B license is mandatory.
  • Must successfully pass a drug test, background check, and DOT physical/fit for duty assessment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • LBC/LBT certification is advantageous but not essential.
  • Preferred candidates will possess strong oral and written communication skills, along with technical and functional expertise.
Professional Skills:
  • Solid understanding of rigging, cranes, and commercial moving and storage operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
While executing the responsibilities of this role, the employee must be able to climb, stand, walk, sit, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and use hands to manipulate tools and controls. The role requires reaching with hands and arms, operating the crane with feet, and engaging with equipment. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The Specialist may be exposed to extreme outdoor conditions year-round and may be required to work on weekends and holidays.
