Position Overview
The City of Marysville is actively seeking qualified candidates for the role of Law Enforcement Officer.
Essential Requirements for Applicants:

Salary after successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy: $7,648/ month
The primary objective of this role is to safeguard individuals and property, deter and address criminal activities, apprehend offenders, and uphold laws and regulations. Responsibilities typically include patrolling, investigating incidents, enforcing traffic laws, addressing community concerns, and documenting reports. The City emphasizes proactive crime prevention and endorses community-oriented policing practices.
Key Responsibilities
Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
- Conduct patrols throughout the city to maintain law and order, prevent and identify criminal activities, and enforce traffic laws.
- Respond to service calls related to traffic incidents, domestic disputes, criminal offenses, and public disturbances, taking appropriate police action.
- Assist citizens during critical and emergency situations where lives and property may be at risk.
- Investigate crime reports, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses as either a uniformed officer or a detective.
- Prepare and present documentation for prosecutions and investigations of criminal, civil, and traffic violations; provide testimony in court as needed.
- Collaborate with other jurisdictions and agencies in routine law enforcement operations and emergency situations.
- Provide training to reserve police officers.
- Ensure department and personal equipment is maintained in optimal condition.
- Maintain proficiency with firearms.
- Assist with animal control duties.
A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the necessary background to perform the duties of this position.
Experience:
No prior law enforcement experience is required.
Education and Training:
A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
Additional Qualifications:
- Must be at least 20 1/2 years old at the time of application.
- Must successfully complete the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year of hire and subsequent field training.
- Must pass the City's Civil Service examination for Entry Level Police Officer.
- Must pass an extensive background check, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screening.
- Must not have any felony convictions.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of application.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess, or obtain by the date of hire, a valid Washington State driver's license.
- Must obtain first aid and CPR certifications within six months of hire.
- Must achieve and maintain Peace Officer Certification as required by Washington State law.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, night vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position involves both office work and outdoor activities in various weather conditions. The employee may work near moving traffic and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or hazardous materials. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
