Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the formulation, distribution, execution, and assessment of the preschool special education curriculum for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.

  • Oversee staffing and placement for preschool special education programs.

  • Work in partnership with district and school staff to integrate technology into early learning instructional practices.
  • Ensure curricular coherence from pre-kindergarten through early elementary grades by collaborating with subject matter experts.
  • Supervise the selection and assessment of educational resources for early childhood programs.
  • Coordinate formal evaluations and documentation of early learning instructional initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Maryland State Department of Education on early childhood education and special education initiatives.
  • Facilitate the ongoing services of federally and state-funded early childhood education programs.
  • Partner with local health departments to support early childhood programs.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of preschool special education student placements.

  • Maintain partnerships with various agencies and organizations to enhance early learning initiatives.
  • Participate in early childhood education activities at local, state, and national levels.
  • Utilize current research to inform program development and strategies aimed at improving student outcomes.
  • Seek and prepare grant proposals to secure funding for early learning initiatives.
  • Contribute to the planning and evaluation of educational facilities for early learning programs.
  • Manage the budget for the Office of Early Learning, ensuring projects are completed within financial constraints.
  • Oversee staffing and perform related human resources functions for assigned personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in early childhood education, special education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with Administrator I endorsement is required.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in an early childhood setting, with a preference for special education experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Proven track record in implementing and supervising curriculum and instructional strategies for students with disabilities, ages birth to five, as well as all students in pre-k and kindergarten.
  • Experience in organizing large-scale professional development opportunities for educators, with knowledge of best practices in early learning.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide a productive team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to deliver persuasive presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications, including Microsoft Office and educational software.
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations affecting educators in the district.
