Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Laboratory Specimen Processor to join our team at UPMC - Pittsburgh Medical Center.

This role is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of specimens, maintaining a safe and clean work environment, and providing excellent customer service to patients and colleagues.


Key Responsibilities
  • Process and manage specimens from receipt to testing, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Monitor and resolve any issues related to specimen delivery, storage, and handling.
  • Verify specimen labels and requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and package specimens for transport to outside locations as needed.
  • Sort and prioritize specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine technical and clerical duties as directed, including data entry and communication with colleagues and patients.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three to six months of experience in a clinical laboratory, physician's office, or other medical environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of or experience in Medical Terminology and Laboratory Information systems preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all age groups and populations of external and internal customers.
