We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at UPMC. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures.
Responsibilities- Perform routine laboratory tests and procedures, including chemistry, hematology, and microbiology.
- Process and analyze patient specimens, including blood and urine samples.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes and automated analyzers.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Collaborate with other laboratory staff and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
- Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
- OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience.
- OR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
- Minimum 1 year's experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
- Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.
