Job Title: Research Scientist Environmental and Chemistry

Join the University of Alaska's Department of Chemistry as a Research Scientist in Environmental Toxicology. This full-time position offers a dynamic and supportive environment with a flexible schedule.

About the Role:

This position will lead a portfolio of research projects in environmental pollutants and health impacts, such as harmful algal blooms, microplastics, and refined fuel spills. You will work with cutting-edge analytical equipment and collaborate with a dynamic team.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead research projects in environmental and biomedical science
  • Provide student training and supervision
  • Operate advanced analytical chemistry equipment, including LC/MS, ICP-MS, NMR, TOC, GC/MS, and laser ablation
  • Develop and implement research projects, including data analysis and interpretation
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to advance research goals
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a physical, natural, or life science field, such as Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedicine, Geology, Geochemistry, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience operating analytical chemistry equipment and bench chemistry skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication abilities and project leadership experience
  • Prior experience operating LC/MS and other mass spectrometry systems is a plus
