Electrical Engineer II Job Description

Thorlabs is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer II to contribute to the development of new products for our microscope systems and components. As a key member of our cross-functional team, you will design, prototype, and troubleshoot electronic circuits and systems, ensuring robust and manufacturable designs in a lean manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop electro-opto and electro-mechanical designs for new products, from concept to production.
  • Design and develop electronics for precision scientific instruments and peripherals, including circuit simulations and testing requirements.
  • Manage project timelines and costs, collaborating with vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electronics-related system issues, providing technical support to production teams.
  • Develop and maintain electronics engineering documentation, including bills of material, engineering drawings, and specification of thin film coatings.
Requirements:
  • 5-9 years of experience in electronics design for motion control, scientific, biotech, medical, or semiconductor instrumentation.
  • MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong expertise in schematic capture and PCB layout in Altium Designer, impedance-controlled PCB routing, and analog/digital low-noise design.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
