Job Summary

The City of Isle of Palms is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting the community, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas to observe and check on homes, businesses, and the general welfare.
  • Respond to specific incidents relayed by the dispatcher and conduct preliminary investigations when needed.
  • Prevent the commission of unlawful acts; apprehend criminals or other persons menacing the general public.
  • Enforce traffic and safety regulations for pedestrians and motor vehicles.
  • Serve warrants, subpoenas, and other writs.
  • Ensure businesses on the island are secure at night.
  • Testify in court as required.
  • Contact victims and keep them updated on the status of their case.
  • Prepare detailed written incident and other reports.
  • Administer first aid to injured persons as needed.
  • Accompany and maintain custody of individuals being taken to jail, court, or detention centers.
  • Conduct searches and arrests when probable cause has been established in keeping with the laws of arrest, search, and seizure.
  • Promote good community relations.
  • Assist at special events as needed.
  • Maintain individual equipment in proper working order.
  • Refer to policy and procedures manuals, computer manuals, codes/laws/ordinances/regulations, publications, and reference texts, etc.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required.
  • Or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Completion of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within the first year of employment.
  • Achievement and maintenance of firearms proficiency according to departmental standards.
  • Possession of a valid South Carolina driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Red Cross or other accredited certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
