Job Overview and Responsibilities

EXPERIENCED LABORER – DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION

This position is part of a competitive selection process. Applications will be accepted from qualified candidates, including those on certification lists and those seeking transfer or reinstatement opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all applicable regulations and policies.

The work location for this role is within the Department of Parks & Recreation, and the incumbent will report directly to the Senior Environmental Scientist.

The selected individual will collaborate with a dedicated team to support the execution of environmentally-focused projects aligned with departmental standards and guidelines. Responsibilities will include working alongside other resource professionals, field personnel, and interdisciplinary specialists to implement necessary strategies and activities for various natural resource initiatives across the region. We seek a proactive individual who thrives in a team-oriented setting. Familiarity with small power tools and their routine upkeep is advantageous. Holding a valid Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) is also preferred.

Opportunities for training and professional development may be available.

A valid Class C driver's license is required for this position. Candidates must provide their driver's license details, including number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions on their application.

This role is not eligible for telecommuting.

The work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

State Housing is not provided.

Working Environment


• This position requires wearing a uniform, with standards outlined in the Uniform Handbook for State Parks Maintenance personnel.


• Willingness to work on weekends and holidays as required is essential.


• The role involves significant outdoor work and travel between various park locations.


• Candidates should be prepared to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions and potentially unpleasant environments (e.g., inclement weather, near waste management areas).


• Physical demands include prolonged standing, bending, and sitting, as well as lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds.


• Frequent walking on uneven terrain is expected.

Special Requirements

A valid California Driver's License (CDL) is required. Candidates must provide their CDL details, including number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions. A Qualified Applicator Certificate or License is necessary. A copy of this certificate must be submitted prior to employment.
